Have you chased each other under the arches, playing pakdam pakdaai in memory of the last game you’d played together?

When you did, did you feel how muted it was this time around? Wasn’t the memory louder, brighter, more rowdy?

Did you end the game with a tumble on the ground? But this time around, didn’t you put your arm out to break your fall? Did you sit together and count the stars that evening? But didn’t you end up arguing over astrology now?

I know I always reach back into memory when I can; and that the present tends to disappoint. If I remembered properly, maybe the past would too.

  1. Yes, but.
It’s nicer to remember wrong and better. It’s all we have of the past, after all.
